Castelli ceramics : the exhibition of ancient pottery from Abruzzo, famous in the the world

The Castelli ceramics produced in the ancient town of Castelli (province of Teramo, in Abruzzo) are exhibited in many famous museums of the world, for example: Metropolitan museum at New York, Louvre Museum in Paris, the British Museum in London, Ermitage  museum at  St. Petersburg.

Castelli ceramics ( Castelli is a town which is included in the list of the hundred most beautiful historic towns in Italy) will again be admired by visitors through an exhibition in the  “Palazzo municipale dell’artigianato”: an old pottery factory located in the center of Castelli (“Salita Paradiso” streat, n. 13.)

Castelli ceramics is the main tourist attraction in this country (ideal for a trip out of town being easily reached from the Adriatic coast from Rome via the A24 exit at S.Gabriele-Colledara) and  during the exhibition you can admire the famous ceiling, to the sixteenth century to that of San Donato and six hundred in the current church of San Donato, which document the two monumental ceramic works are unique in Italy

Moreover, they can be admired works of the most famous ceramists of Castelli, who lived in the historical period from the early sixteenth century: the Pompeii, Grue, the Gentiles, and Fuina Cappelletti, potters who made famous in the world name of Castelli, whose works are in museums throughout the world, from the Metropolitan in New York at the Louvre in Paris, London by the British in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Bargello in Florence at the Palazzo Venezia in Rome, from the Capodimonte Floridian and the St Martin of Naples.

Another meeting will be held in Teramo  (  Pinacoteca Civica di Teramo , viale Bovio 1) where he made a major exhibition on the history of Castelli ceramic. This is a great step forward for the famous collection “Matricardi” composed largely of unpublished works, of great historical and scientific value.
This collection is a documentation of the  Castelli ceramics  productions spanning the period from the early sixteenth century, in which this country has excelled in the world, collecting pieces of high quality and of great historical and scientific value, which in many cases contribute to the clarification of some controversial aspects of the famous painters like Carlantonio Francescantonio and Grue,or Candeloro Cappelletti.


The exhibition “”Ceramiche di uso e popolari”” which will be held simultaneously in Castelli  presents ceramics  above the 800, from local collectors, and will mean a historical continuity with the collection on display in Teramo and that takes into account a historical period up the dawn of the nineteenth century.

It will be possible for visitors, a distance of few kilometers, you can get the complete idea of ​​the history of majolica castle, even the hitherto rather neglected because, mistakenly, believed to be minor.

This second exhibition, additional exposure of Teramo, will open July 21 and will close September 30, 2012.
